tracy emin: electric whispers

As a writer, words light me up. Especially when they sparkle and glow.

I fell in love with Tracy Emin's work in Miami at Art Basel 2013. This Brit lights up her confessional art of simple (yet intimate) handwritten text in neon. I love her work in that she whispers intimate phrases expressing her emotions through the medium of neon, a medium that is often used to flash commerical offerings.

Powerful Portraits + Perspective

I came across this awesome campaign over at Miss Moss and absolutely love it! What I adore most about these powerful portraits are the reflections. 

The queen of funky sunnies, Karen Walker, joined forces with the UN's Ethical Fashion Initiative  to commission Kenyan artisans to create unique pouches for her upcoming collection this Summer. Here are some of the local stars of her campaign:

I found this video over at Cup of Joe and Wow! Wow! Wow! 

Artist Marina Abramovic did a 2010 performance art piece at the Museum of Modern Art, where she sat in a chair, and, one by one, people could sit opposite her and look into her eyes. Some, couldn't handle it and tears were flowing!

As if the experience wasn't intense enough - you know, windows are the eyes of the soul, right? - then her former love Ulay arrived without her knowledge. The above video shows the moment she sees him. Apparently they had a passionate love affair back in the 70s, but when they felt the relationship was fizzling, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting in the middle for a last hug and never seeing each other again. Here they are, meeting once again.

Romantic, huh?

Isn't the way humans express emotions and (dis)connect amazing?! 

Human Flower Art

Check out Cecelia Webber's human flower art: digital photography composed entirely of nude human beings. She works to make people aware of their link to nature and hopes to help people realize a positive self-image of their bodies and to have the ability to look at nudity and nakedness as comforting, vulnerable, and beautiful.

Another reason to live in NYC!

Don't you just love swings?! 

I sure do! I love anything to do with movement, the quality of air and fun!

This installation, the creative imagining of Ann Hamilton, over at the Armory in Manhattan looks brilliant! Her installation features 42 swings which move an enormous billowy curtain when the audience perches on a swing and sways away. "When the swings are in action, the curtain, made of a lightweight silk twill, rises and dips, and the air is stirred, causing further billowing and fluttering," writes Roberta Smith of The New York Times. How cool!?
